Wave Dancers
Traditional French Brown Patina

Bottle nosed dolphins have always been a favorite of mine probably beginning with a show I remember growing up in the 60’s and 70’s called flipper.  What is not to like about dolphins?  They are athletic and graceful intelligent and seemingly fun loving.  I have been fishing off the Coast of North Carolina and paddling  in some of the salt marsh areas of South Carolina.  Dolphins in these locations are always a joy to watch.

Wave Dancers is a sculpture that shows the grave of these amazing creatures as they leap side by side up and out of the water, cavorting in what seems to be as much pure joy as any practical value.  People have tested and measured and observed dolphins, we know they are smart.  The ability to solve problems and the curiosity and learn are measures of this commonly cited but what about just the desire to have fun?  It seems in the case of dolphins this must almost certainly be the case.  In any event this is what “Wave Dancers” is all about, two dolphins just experiencing the joy of being, of having fun.

Wave Dancer is approximately 12” x 12” x 12” in size and weighs 20 lbs.  It is cast bronze on a marble base.
